An unusual eigenvalue problem

We discuss an eigenvalue problem which arises in the studies of asymptotic stability of a self-similar attractor in the sigma model. This problem is rather unusual from the viewpoint of the spectral theory of linear operators and requires special methods to solve it. One of such methods based on continued fractions is presented in detail and applied to determine the eigenvalues.

An Optimization Problem for the First Weighted Eigenvalue Problem plus a Potential

(1.2) I := inf {λ(g, V ) : g ∈ R(g0), V ∈ R(V0)} . where V0 and g0 are fixed potential and weight functions respectively with some precise hypotheses that we state below (see (H1) and (H2)) and R(V0), R(g0) are the classes of rearrangements of V0 and g0 respectively. This type of optimization problems for eigenvalues of the p−Laplacian have deserved a great deal of attention. We like to mention...

An Eigenvalue Problem for Elliptic Systems

By means of non-smooth critical point theory we prove existence of weak solutions for a general nonlinear elliptic eigenvalue problem under natural growth conditions .

Spectrum consisting in a continuous family plus an isolated point for a Dirichlet type problem

Eigenvalue problems involving the Laplace operator on bounded domains lead to a discrete or a continuous set of eigenvalues. In this paper we highlight the case of an eigenvalue problem involving the Laplace operator which possesses, on the one hand, a continuous family of eigenvalues and, on the other hand, at least one more eigenvalue which is isolated in the set of eigenvalues of that proble...

On an Eigenvector-Dependent Nonlinear Eigenvalue Problem

We first provide existence and uniqueness conditions for the solvability of an algebraic eigenvalue problem with eigenvector nonlinearity. We then present a local and global convergence analysis for a self-consistent field (SCF) iteration for solving the problem. The well-known sin Θ theorem in the perturbation theory of Hermitian matrices plays a central role. The near-optimality of the local ...
